“Aham” means “I” – That which cannot be deserted or abandoned on account of being constant, unavoidable and ever present. Brahman means ever-full or whole; and Asmimeans ”am”.
Brahman is the Infinite Reality; only when the ego dies can this be realized. In this sentence the “I” or the “Aham” is not the Limited transmigrating ego, the doer and the enjoyer within, and also not the body and the mind. Man or Woman (who is a conscious entity) alone has the capacity to improve his present state, to guide his future, to enquire and know the truth, and to free himself from the cycle of birth and death through thoughtful actions. This realization is gained through true enquiry.
Aham’16 showcases my evolution as an individual and as an artist as well.
For me drawing the female form comes naturally, it is a way for me to express my thoughts, or reflect on them. In my recent work I have replaced the female form with the Lotus, which has an equally effeminate feeling and portrays the different layers of a woman, be it a daughter, mother, a lover or a wife.
“Aham”, is my endeavor at self-expression. For me, “Aham” is what comes from within me. My work flows out spontaneously from my being, my soul. Anybody who has ever observed a lotus flower emerging from a murky pond cannot fail to see the beauty of this exquisite plant. The flower always looks so clean and pure against the background of the dirty pond. Because of this the lotus flower has come to be associated with purity and beauty in various ancient and modern cultures. It is associated with faithfulness, beauty, fertility, prosperity, spirituality, eternity and rebirth. The breaking of the surface every morning is also suggestive of desire; this leads to it being associated with spiritual enlightenment. The unopened bud is representative of a folded soul that has the ability to unfold and open itself up to the divine truth.”
